Origami Bow-Tie Shirt for Dad

This post is dedicated to my friend Darren Tate, a young man whom I was honored to serve with in Afghanistan and keep his memory in my heart.  “All gave some, but he gave it all.”  Today,  Memorial Day, is a day of Remembrance for those that gave the ultimate sacrifice, so that we could have tomorrow’s.  I miss ya kid!

Father's Day

I love Origami shirts and bow-ties and if you’ve seen my past year’s Father’s Day cards you’ll see that this style is my favorite to do for the father’s in my life.

The Bohemian Designer Series Paper measures 8-1/2″ x 11″ and when you view the Origami shirt visual instruction below you will fold on the 11″ side. You’ll see what I mean when you view the directions.  I used this size because I wanted the card to bow-tie to measure the same ratio as the shirt. Does that make sense?

MAGGIE MADE TIPS

  • Bow-Tie Madness:  I used to make my own bow-ties and when Stampin’ Up! released the Bow Builder Punch I was happy happy happy.  I was actually dreaming of making this card for a few days before I made it too.  Don’t you dream of designing cards?  I thought everybody did. HA!  I used glue dots on the bow-tie because I want the bow-tie to be just a little moveable for a more realistic look.
  • Origami Shirt:  The Origami shirt is so easy to make and you see the step-by-step instructions here.  Designer series paper works perfect for the shirts too because of the awesome patterns.
  • Silk Handkerchief:  Oh yeah!  Use a nice silky smooth ribbon to put inside the pocket.  I took a two inch piece of Whisper White Satin Ribbon to finish off the pocket in style.  For ribbon I love to use the Fast Fuse adhesive because it gives a real strong hold on the material.  Have you tried it?
  • Tiny Banner: When I initially completed the card I had not adhered the word “DAD” to the pocket and it looked pretty plane.  That’s when I decided to pull out DAD stamp in Guy Greeting.  It was the perfect size for the Banner Punch and it made a boring pocket stand out.  After all, the card is for a lucky dad.

Occasions Catalog Ends This Weekend:  So often I hear these words, “Darn it, I knew I should’ve ordered it!”  Then depending on how bad you want it…you’re gonna pay a little more and I know eBay prices is NOT what you want to pay.  I highly recommend that you take one last look at the 2015 Occasions Catalog and order what you really desire.
