OSAT Blog Hop – Happy Father’s Day

OSAT Hop Button Father's Day My Soldier

“There are many brave Soldiers, but this one is mine!”

Good Day my sweet stampin’ friends…you may have hopped here from Andrea Pancrazio’s awesome project and I urge you to Keep Calm and Hop On (LoL).  If you tuned in from Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge don’t worry the post wasn’t abducted by aliens, it’s right below this post.  Before scrolling on down, why don’t ya check out “One Stamp at a Time” (OSAT) Father’s Day/Masculine blog hop for June.  This hop was created by none other than the Super Power Paper Ninja, Andrea Tracy Tucker at One Stampin’ Mother Tucker and I’m still in awe by the team’s extra-ordinary talent.

MAGGIE MADE TIPS:

  • Don’t Spill Your Coffee.   All I’m going to say about this is, “keep a lid on it!”  Just because I now work from home doesn’t mean that I can leave an open coffee cup on my craft desk.  Enough said! (LoL)
  • Add Dimension.  When your image is flat and you want to add color or dimension all you have to do is stamp the image on a different piece of yardstick or designer series paper and cut it out close to the lines and adhere it to the image with dimensional.
  • Printed Sentiment.  Nope, it’s not a stamp set.  It’s the Marine’s Corp’s Riffleman’s Creed.  The first line goes like this, “This is my rifle.  There are many like it, but this one is mine.”  That’s when it hit me……as I was exploring which stamp set to use and I saw G.I. Joe in his cute little parachute.

Introducing Stamp, Ink, Paper Card Challenge

Blank

Nobody knows….how excited I am for today!  Why?  Because today Stamp, Ink, Paper card challenge is born.  The brain child of Justin Krieger is going to take card challenges by the tail.  I urge you to join us in celebrating today’s birth by entering the challenge and give it all you’ve got.  I’m also giving away some blog candy to one lucky player who enters the challenge.

Blog Candy:  A complete paper share of the Designer Series Paper Stacks.  One lucky winner will win a total of 36 page share of the Go Wild, Cherry on Top, and Pretty Petals.      The number of entries will be assigned a number as cards are uploaded onto challenge page.  Random.Org will be used for winner selection and winner will announced here the day after the challenge ends.

Challenge 1

I’m an earth tony type of girl and I have traveled the world many times over during my 25 year stint with the Air Force.  I used numbers instead of a sentiment for my card to introduce myself because numbers play a huge part of my life.  Although it’s June 8th…(19)68 was the best year of my parents life.  Why?  It was the year their only daughter was born.  It was a great for my mom because she was surrounded by nuts! LOL…now go on over to Stamp, Ink, Paper and read more about me and the other design team members.

Blank

I met Justin just shy of two years and he is the epitome of card-making perfection!  When he invited me to become a part of this fabulous design team I felt so overwhelmed with happiness.  I feel so honored to be among the truly best card designers out there…I aimed for the moon because I knew I’d end up among the stars.  The blog candy is a brand new LOTUS BLOSSOM stamp set.

MAGGIE MADE TIPS:

  • Sentiment Not Need.  That’s right, there is no rule that states a card must have a sentiment.  I have numbers that mark the birth of today’s card challenge.  Numbers mark a day of most importance in our lives like an anniversary or birthday.

June On-Line Orders.  Receive a sample (one of each) Expressions Natural Elements when you place an order via my on-line store and use Host Code: 7XAYE9K4

Full of Gratitude & More Blog Candy!

ThanksgivingThis week started off with a promise to give blog candy all week and as promised I’m showing you that I am truly Grateful for You.

I love the bright Fall colors in the Color Me Autumn Designer Series Paper. The colors blend very well together and talk about complimenting each other.

I’m semi-colorblind and I must say, this is a stack of paper I can not go wrong with regardless of what color my brain thinks it sees. LOL

TIP: If you don’t have a particular shape, like an arrow punch… improvise! I cut out the arrow with the Burlap

This gorgeous bright beautiful card is a sketch challenge brought to you by The Creative Challenge Clubs.

Less Is More: Classy Without the Bells & Whistles

Christmas

One word. Merry is all you need to say it all this Christmas season. Often many feel that in order to send a holiday greeting it must have tons of glimmer and sparkle, but that’s not the case.

Do you have males in your life (family, friends, co-workers) you’d love to make a Christmas card for, yet don’t want to give him the swirls and curls of a girly card?

I bet he won’t even notice that I used ribbon. Ha! The Cherry Cobbler 1″ Sheer Linen Ribbon is strong enough for a man, yet ridiculously delicate for a lady… LOL.

Stampin’ Up! Noel

I would love for you to help me help you.  I want to give someone FREE Stampin' Up! product aka blog candy.  I'm happiest when you are happy and since I love making cards, I want you to experience the same happiness.

When people first meet me they think one of three things:1) she's a little nutty, 2) she loves making cards, or 3) wow, she's a nutty card maker.  Would you love to have what I'm having?  This post is your chance!

Let me tell you about this card and then you can help me… Keep Calm and Read On.

Christmas

Can you believe that I still have quite a few boxes of My Paper Pumpkin kits laying around!?  To my surprise I found this kit and quickly put them together.  But I think I'm going to need more.

The picture really does not do the card justice.  The actual card is so bright and cheery… I just love it.  If you stare at the red stripes the card appears to be moving as the pattern plays a trick on your eyes.

To enter to win the My Paper Pumpkin Memo Medley Kit (October) all you have to do is answer this question in the comment area below:

Did you have a holiday tradition either growing up or did you start one?

Growing up my parents had a big birthday party to celebrate the birth of Jesus on Christmas Eve.  Family and friends dropped by throughout the night and ate tamales, posole, buñuelos, and so much other types of dishes that you better had showed up hungry.

At midnight we sang happy birthday to the Baby Jesus in Spanish and a piñata would be brought out for the kids to break apart.  Candy fell out everywhere and it was so much fun.

You're thinking "at midnight!?"  Eeeeek!  Yup we stayed up until the wee hours of the morning.  On Christmas day we pretty slept all day.  Those sure were such beautiful memories that will live in my heart forever.

Winner will be announced Friday., December 27th.

Did You Remember His Birthday?

I was asked to speak at the Hispanic Heritage dinner last night and talk about what it was like growing up a Latino woman.  I ended up speaking about my father because he molded who I am and taught me three important lessons in life.  I won’t type out the entire speech, but will highlight the three important one’s.

  1. Education opens doors: My father taught himself English while working in the fields under the Bracero Program started by President Roosevelt in the 40’s.  He knew that in order to support his family he needed to educate himself.  Not only did education opened doors for him… and windows too.
  2. Persistence pays off: After learning plumbing he showed up at a water plant in Los Angeles County at 7:00 a.m. every morning and as the owner drove in he would ask, “Sir, are you hiring?”  The answer was always, “No, sorry.”  Lets just say that after two weeks of his persistence the owner created a job for him.
  3. Give back to those that gave to you: I did. I now give back to the country that afforded my dad the opportunity to give us the American Dream through hard work and sacrifices.

Thank you dad, for molding me. I owe everything I am and everything I am still to be to my dad (and my mom who stands next to him).

I didn’t forget my dad’s birthday either… LoL  I’m on a roll with masculine cards and I absolutely love the Textured Impression Embossing Folder.  It adds a lot of masculine characteristic to any color card stock.

Pals Blog Hop: Trick or Treat!

Thank you for joining us for the Pals Halloween Blog Hop. We hope you enjoy our virtual trick-or treat hop where you will either learn great tricks for your creative projects or enjoy a blog candy treat.

You should have just left stop number 2 on the Pals Hop – Angela Curry at Kindred Stampers. If so, you are in the right spot.  If you get off track, the full blog lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all of the amazing creations.

Hello and welcome once again… today I bring you a sweet little spider that is supposed to be a black widow.  But now that I look at it… it looks like a round cockroach… I'm laughing so hard, I just spit on my screen (go ahead and laugh)… hahaha.

Either way, spider or cockroach… I hate them both.  The only cool thing with this spider is that it's a paper spider.  They are cute and not scary what so ever.  They are fun and easy to make too.

A paper snipped the legs in an L and just glued them to the back of the body.  The body was made with a 1" circle punch and for the red dot belly I used the circle from the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack.  Stampin' Up! punches are very versatile and have a gazzilion uses.  Is that even a word? LoL

I've Got a Treat to Give!

1StacksMy treat for you today is a brand new Hostess stamp set… Stacks of Wishes.  If you'd like a chance to win, simply leave a comment below by Fri., Oct. 11th.  One random winner will be announced on Sat., October 12th, so be sure to come back and check on Saturday!  U.S. address only please.

If you're signed up to follow My Paper Journey, you will receive an email announcing the winner the moment it is posted.  Winner has 24 hours to email (maggie@maggiemadecards.com) me mailing address, so stay tuned for the announcement of the winner!

May the cards be with you – Good Luck!

Fire Engine Kids Birthday – You’re My Hero

kid

The You're My Hero stamp set reminds me of growing up in the suburbs of Los Angeles hearing sirens as they left the station to respond to an emergency.  This card is great birthday card for that little boy in your life.

On Air Force bases fire trucks are yellow and I have no idea why.  I Googled it and I found out that there is no particular reason, but there must be in the military because every base I've ever visited has yellow fire trucks.

However, my research indicated that yellow fire trucks were more safe because they are more visible to drivers.  Now that makes sense.

kid

The card is a quick & easy card, just like I like them!  I used real red card stock as the card base with a piece of whisper white to bring out the real red in the trucks color.  The black strip of basic black was a left over scrap and it fit perfect after I stamped the trucks.  To add a little dimension to the tires I placed candy dots from the Neutrals collection on all six tires.

Clean & Simple Grateful Heart

Grateful1I always read that we should be grateful for what we have instead of thinking of what we don't have.  Life is much more enjoyable and it creates a happiness like no other.  It's so true and this stamp captures the feeling of being grateful.

I may be 6K+ miles away from the USA, but know that this blog has allowed me to keep in touch with so many of you.  I am truly grateful for your kind emails, cards, care packages, and prayers.  You are the reason why I keep this blog going.

FTL252

The card layout is brought to you by Clean & Simple Stamping #52 sketch challenge.  I fell in love with the sketch so much I made a small batch of these cards to send out to my loved one's while on this deployment.

Today started of hot, as the day went by it stayed hot, when I left work for dinner, it was still hot.  The 80/20 rule came to life and I have yet to grow tired of it.  It keeps me on my toes and challenges me to come up with better ways of maximizing my time and efforts to ensure that the 20% of what matters keeps going.

Did I lose you? LoL… I lost myself too.  The 80/20 rule is Pareto's Principle and can be applied to anything in life. Long story short, being aware of this rule will help you stay focused with the 20% of the stuff that matters most.
