MAGGIE MADE TIPS: Not in cash, but great crafting recommendations.

  • Go reverse it!  Although I love 99.9% of our Designer Series Paper what do I do with the .1% that I don’t particularly care for? I use the reverse side of it. Go figure, the color always works out with whatever pattern is on the reverse.
  • What is my style!?  Honestly, I don’t think I have one. Well, sometimes I think I do, but then somehow I switch it up. I love clean & simple and not too much clutter on the card front. But hey…do what makes YOU happy!  The beauty of cards is just like physical human beauty, it’s in the eye of the beholder.  You may not like a card I like and vice-versa. What matters most is that someone took the time to make you a card with there hands.
  • Comments: You know what would be very sweet of you? Leave a comment for each person who posts a card at Can You Case It even if their card is ‘not your style’ or you don’t like it. Find one thing you find pleasing and leave a nice comment, you’ll feel great and put a little bit of sunshine in the heart of the participant. If you have a card you’d love to show case, but don’t have a blog send it to me (maggie@maggiemadecards.com) and include your information.  I will be ecstatic to put it right here for you. You’ll have it seen by literally thousands of people…close your eyes and imagine that for a second (or two, or three).

It’s Your Birthday with Pals Paper Arts

PPA 234

I took advantage of this week’s Pals Paper Arts card sketch to make this card for a friend who recently celebrated her 40th birthday! I met Angela Rockwood through a mutual friend and I was lucky and honored to have been invited to her birthday party.

MAGGIE MADE TIPS: Not in cash, but great crafting recommendations.

  • Make it yours. Card sketches serve as a way to translate the beautiful art that you create with your own imagination. Instead of a star, I used the round framelits and to add a little pop, I adhered the strip of red glimmer paper in between the circles.

A Very Special Birthday Message

Blend Well

I’m bringing Crazy, Mixed Up Love back! I’m so glad this stamp set is still available in digital format. I’m going to tell you why in a moment, but first I will tell you that we have the best digital software for recreating a stamp from the past.

It’s called My Digital Studio and you can get a FREE trial. My favorite thing about Stampin’ Up! is that even after a stamp set retires it’s often still available in digital format. That’s how I was able to make this sweet card. Now on to my story.

Blender Card

TRUE STORY: You Can’t Make This Up

I received an email from Joe (aka Yossi), a very thoughtful gentlemen (from New York) who is surprising his girlfriend (Estee) with a special gift. Can you guess what it is? Maybe Joe will stop by and tell us what he got her.

To personalized his card, I placed the letters of both their names inside the blender because they blend well together. Isn’t that cute! It simply warmed my heart that he took the time to find her the perfect card.  You can see the original card here.

MAGGIE’S THOUGHTS: Simple Suggestions

  • When snipping out images use Stampin’ Dimensionals to pop them off the card to give it a little 3-D action.
  • If your image has a large portion that is a dark color, stamp it in different color and snip it to make it to come to life.

TODAY’S SPECIAL MESSAGE:

A shoutout to Estee on her birthday, enjoy your special day and know that your one of a kind card was made especially for you. You are definitely special. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

On Time Birthday Tag

Bday Ray3

True Story: Last year I gave my cousin-in-law a birthday card & gift six months late…LOL. So this year, I did one better. He got it on his actual birthday and a special wrapped gift to boot!

Ray's Birthday

How awesome is it that the card itself also becomes part of the birthday gift!? Awesome blossom! No, I didn’t give him blossoms. I wrapped a See’s Candy box filled with their tasty peanut brittle. I even helped him eat it. HA!

MUCH GRATITUDE
I have been promoted to Manager!

I couldn’t have made it this far without the support of my wonderful customers and  Circle of Pals.
THANK YOU ISN’T ENOUGH!

EVEN MORE SWEET NEWS COMING NEXT WEEK!
I can’t tell you now because all the right people need be informed, but next week you are going to receive the greatest news that made my whole year!!!

The saying, “When One Door Closes Another Opens” is more than just true!
174 Days Left until RETIREMENT, but who’s counting!?

MAGGIE MADE THOUGHTS: Simple Suggestions I Use

  • When giving a small gift use the card to decorate the box. It automatically becomes a 3-D card.
  • A masculine card can have ribbon! Don’t ever let anyone tell you it can’t. Ray loved the ribbon!

Stampin’ Up! Product Recipe:

Hooray for Today! World Card Making Day

HoorayI chose the Hooray for Today sentiment because today is WORLD CARD MAKING DAY.  Who would’ve thought of it right!?  There are days for everything and one more day to bring happiness into someone experiencing a cloud is peachy in my book.

I bet Hallmark is having heartburn…LOL.  What!? People make handmade cards for a fraction of the cost?… no way, get outta here!  There you have it folks.  make one today and bring a little bit of sunshine into somebody’s day.

Hooray3The image doesn’t have a distinct “O” so I added the sequince to add a deliberant circle.  But now that I look at it more closely I don’t know why I see an owl…LOL. Oh and I took the liberty of borrowing this layout from Case(e) this Sketch!

TIPS: If you have the same problem as me and unable to match colors (you should see the colors I choose to dress in…LOL) feel free to use the Color Coach.  It’s my go-to-color finder.

Birthday/Boxes

Wow look at the curves on this sweet little box! I wasn’t going to get it when I saw it in the Holiday Catalog, but when my up-line gave me a shopping spree for making Sr. Supervisor it was the first thing on my list.

Just in case anyone is wondering what’s in the Curvy Box… There was a crispy twenty dollar bill along with that I gave to my nephew for his birthday.  My heart broke into pieces when I saw him tear the tabs off to open it… LOL… then again, he turned eight.

Birthday

I almost forgot to mention that I used the Spiral Board Punch for the edges on the Blackberry Bliss card stock and the Star from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch.

A Red Birthday

Happy Friday my friend!  Like more than half the U.S. I love Fridays and like less than 10% of the U.S. I love Mondays too. HA!  For the last many (lost count) weekends I’ve been busy and although I often try to bring you a little something each week this week is just busy busy busy.

Birthday

However, I wanted to share the birthday card I made for my son’s birthday last Sunday.  Every year for that last few years I’ve made him a card in red.  Why? Yup, you guessed it… it’s his favorite color.  It was fast & easy as it has no frills or thrills, but he loved it!  A tap tap tap on some ink and presto here it is.  I love the clear photopolymer have you tried it?

Don’t forget I have a product give-a-way too and today is your last chance to enter to win.  Click here to place your entry.  I will be announcing the lucky winner tomorrow morning.  If you’re already on my mailing list you’ll be the first to know, but if you’re not click here to subscribe.

Pumpkin Anyone?

This month’s My Paper Pumpkin was amazing! I’ve taught two free card classes with them and they are a hit. At first I thought that the kits would be great for beginners who want to experiment with the kit, but I quickly realized that the kits are great for the advanced card maker also. I love them because I can put them together with ease and I send them to my customers as well as give them to family & friends. I can give so many of them away because I order three kits a month. That’s how crazy I am about them.

I couldn’t believe that this kit also came with tiny cards that can also be used with gift cards too. They are so darn cute! Click here to learn more about My Paper Pumpkin.

If you’ve been thinking about or considering a kit click on photo below to give it at least one try.

A Heartfelt Message

If you’re here to view the blog hop, don’t worry, just continue scrolling and you will see it.  But if you want to read about my personal stamping story read before moving on.

Birthday

I’m not going to discuss the recent event of the loss of one of America’s beloved comedian/actor, Robin Williams. But what he suffered from… depression. I know too well about depression and I do not hide it and I have shared my personal story many times, but in a nutshell, depression is real and nothing or no one can just make it go away.

After my diagnosis, I found myself stamping and playing with paper, stamps, inks, and the feeling of being in a room full of people, but still feeling alone didn’t go away completely, but my hobby made me feel like it made my days Ridiculously Amazing (like the stamp set). It didn’t happen overnight, it took a few months, but nevertheless I began to feel better.

What added to my feeling of getting out of my funk was the new friends I made.  They are the Pals, led by Mary Fish, the sweetest most loving woman you will ever meet.  There are even more amazing men & women who I call my Pals and they’re literally all over the U.S.  We are a network of support not just for crafting, but we lean on each other when we are suffering in our private lives. We not only communicate via our private Facebook page, but we call, text, and message each other whenever we need each other.

For them I am thankful, grateful, and I love them to pieces. Every single one of them, they will never know what they have done for me.  Even while deployed, they kept my spirits up, they kept me stamping and my mind off war.

I love you with all my heart my sweet Pals!

Birthday

With all this said, I ask that if you suffer from depression, get yourself a hobby! Any hobby, not just stamping because I am living proof that my depression has been lessened and although I can’t say it’ll ever go away, I know I have special friends that will always be there for me.  You see, depression isn’t something that can be immediately cured and if you have a friend whom you know suffers from depression, know that all you have to be is a FRIEND.  Listen to them without judgement, but just let them lean on you… YOU just might save their life.

If you are just so inclined to learn more about stamping you can learn more about My Circle of Pals here or send an email to (maggie@maggiemadecards.com) and ask me anything you’d like to know about joining our group of crafters. You can even just share your story with me even if you just need someone to talk to.

Feathery Birthday

Feathers Birthday

If you’re thinking this paper is new to Stampin’ Up!… nope not new, but simply colored in with various light colors from our Write markers.  I first this technique demonstrated by Patty Bennett. I loved it so much, I just had to try it and show it to you.  There’s really nothing magical to do just get a few of your favorite Write markers and start coloring like a coloring book. Go on and try it, then let me know how yours turns out.

Birthday Feathers

I never was a kid who colored inside the lines, but what the heck feathers don’t have lines… LOL. When I picked the colors for this card sketch challenge I used my Color Coach because I cannot lie… I don’t have an eye for color, so I pretty much depend on it often.

Change Up the Pumpkin

The picture below includes my own stamp set, ink, and sequence.  It is not included with the kit.  The kit has the cards, boxes, and different stamp set as seen in the video below.

My Paper Pumpkin

The month’s paper pumpkin is one of my personal favorites!  Stampin’ Up! has truly stepped it up and made the monthly kit F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S.    I love being a little different so I changed it up just a tiny bit and used a different stamp set on the tag.  The card I kept it the same as the kit card.

These kits are great for all levels of crafters.  Beginners love them because everything you need is in the box (ink, paper, stamp set, adhesive, and all items are pre-cut), advanced crafters love it for the same reason as the beginner, but they get to give it their own personal touch.  It also comes straight to your door, each month.  You can cancel at any time and there are no obligations.

This is July’s fabulous kit and I’ve already had a sneak peak for August and I can’t wait to get it.
