A Tribute to My Dad

Classic Truck Today’s Stamp Ink Paper Challenge #29 card is dedicated to my dad.  The stamp is from an Oldie, but Goodie and although it doesn’t have the Chevrolet symbol, if know trucks, then you’ll know this is a 1965-1969 Chevy truck.  How do I know?  My dad had one and it’s what I learned to drive on.  She was the family’s sole transportation and she outlasted all of us.  Ultimately my dad gifted the truck to my uncle.  I have fond memories of that ole’ girl.  It’s probably why I love trucks….lol.

My dad would never have had his favorite truck in a card if it weren’t for my friend Sue who sold it to me and didn’t take my arms and legs as payment over at Retired Stamps for Sale.  Thank you Sue so much from the bottom of my heart. You have truly not just made my heart smile, but also my dad’s heart.

MAGGIE MADE TIPS:

  • Retired Stamps.  Use them!  Just because I sell current items doesn’t mean I can’t use them on my blog.  I mean, I wish they were still for sale and you could buy them, but don’t worry, if I have a set that you’d love to have just send an email and I’ll be more than happy stop set you a stamped image of the set.
  • One Strip of Bright Color.  Doesn’t the lone piece of red seem to make the whole card burst with color?  LOL…I think it does.  Although the colors are not too over-powering the red brings your eyes right smack to the center of the card to show you the center of my masterpiece. HA!  Try it next time you make a card.  Use at least three like or opposite colors and throw in a small piece of bright-colored card stock.  I’m willing to bet it gives the eye a place to focus.  Kind of weird, but it really does.  Scroll back up and take a look.

Twenty Six SIPs

Birthday

Today is another Stamp Ink Paper sketch challenge day!  I’ve been having server issues for the last few days and it looks like things have been resolved….oh so happy now. =)  But what makes me even more happy is that today’s card is brought to you by a sketch that I got to create (applause here). LOL

SIP 26

I can’t wait to see what you design. Thank you so much for stopping by today.

MAGGIE MADE TIPS:

  • Designer Series Paper vs. Folder Embossing.  With this design I was going to use an embossing folder to add a little character to the card, but then said to myself, “Self, the earth-tone colored DSP is just fine!”  I chose to leave it alone and let the big bold stamp speak for itself and it looks great the way it is.  No need to bombard the card with too much stimulation.

Stamp Ink Paper Challenge #10

Condolence

What’s my card style?  A question I’ve asked myself hundreds of times, if not thousands…LoL.  I often wish I had a style, but I just simple do not.  I mean, I’ve convinced myself that I had a style, clean and simple, but I just do not have one.  Well, until I asked my friend Pam.  I write about it below…go on see if you agree with her, pretty please.

SIP 10

Tell me, what does this photo inspire you to do?  Wait, no, don’t tell me, show me!  So, take a look at the photo and create a card of the first thing that popped into your mind.  I can’t wait to see it at Stamp Ink Paper.

What’s My Style?  Whether you think you have one or not, you do.  I’ve answered that question several times (to myself) and I don’t think I was listening…LOL.  I’m indecisive and I should’ve asked someone else before believing myself (HA!).  Note to self: Never believe your own answers.  So, I asked my friend Pam. Her response, “You’re eclectic, just like your house.” She added, “everything goes together, but it’s all different.”  True words spoken, I do a little bit of everything.

MAGGIE MADE TIPS:

  • Window Frame.  Are they really the direct link to our soul?  Stampin’ Up! must’ve been hearing our words…we want windows. So, in the Holiday catalog they’ll give us Hearth & Home Thinlits Dies and I assure you, you are going to love them!
  • Window Image.  I sponged a piece of the new upcoming Winter Wonderland Designer Vellum Stack with Pacific Point ink and then stamped a window sheet with the Thoughts & Prayers tree stamp (just the leaves) and layered the window sheet on top of the vellum stamped side down (to prevent smudging).  The glare in the photo is from my window, I didn’t make any magic, except the card…LOL>
  • Flower Pots.  I’ve got a tiny trick up my sleeve and found the tiny flower-pot here.  I downloaded it, resized it about three times before I cut out a template.  I used Cajun Craze card-stock to cut out the little flower-pot. Cute right?

The Perfect Rack with SIP #9

Elk Hunting

There are not enough words in the English language to describe the love I felt when I tore open my pre-ordered Stampin’ Up! goodies.  I know I’ll be ordering extra sets of this fabulous paper because I’m going to hoard it!  Also, I’ll be doing four paper share’s with the new Designer Series paper in the Holiday catalog.  More info tomorrow!

SIP 9

Today’s magnifabulous (yes, I just made up that word) card is brought to you by the number nine in this week’s Stamp Ink Paper sketch challenge.  I was seriously wow’d by the number of entries last week and I want to say that every single card was just awesome! It was so difficult to choose just one and I ended up voting so late that I almost gave myself a thousand paper-cuts as self punishment.  No, I’m kidding, but seriously I “profusely” apologize (what movie did Demi Moore use that word in?) for being late.  I’ve been in a whirlwind romance with Stampin’ Up! when I received my pre-order (one of the many perks of being a demo).

Elk Hunting

My husband is a hunter and each year he hunts Deer & Elk and today’s card was made for him.  It’s the only reason why I bought the Winter Wonderland DSP and The Wilderness Awaits stamp set.  I often joke with him and tell him not to come home without dinner….LOL.  He reads my blog, but I’ve already given him the card.  So, I’ll remind you now Mister, “Dont’ come home without dinner.” LOL

MAGGIE MADE TIPS:

  • Image Center State.  I stamped my main image (the Elk) with black Memento ink to give a clean masculine look and feel.  The deer points do not over-power the image and stand on their own with as much character as the Elk.  I see nature and food it provides for us. …and nature must be admired, respected, and loved just as the hunter. =)
