Happy Fourth of July

This morning at 1:15 a.m. I left my comfortable warm bed and proudly put on my uniform to give a Fallen Warrior my last respects as she headed onto her final journey home on the Fourth of July.

I had the honor of participating in a Fallen Warrior transfer ceremony about 2:00 a.m. this morning.

It was a warm night with no high wind, and you could hear a pin drop…  the casket was draped securely with our Nation’s great Red, White, and Blue flag as it was transferred from the truck to the C-130… the Commander called us to attention and our arms gave a slow solemn salute on her final flight home.

As we paid our respects and farewell, I couldn’t help but think of her… did she have children, was she married… I may never know, but I felt humbled, sad, proud, just a whirlwind of emotions.  I’ve done this before, and you never get used to it, but today gave the Fourth of July another level of what being American means to me… it will be a day etched in my memory.  May our Fallen Hero’s lives be celebrated for giving selflessly and unselfishly for all of us.

For those who have served our country or have had family members serve in the military, I say, “Thank you.”

FREEDOM IS NOT FREE!

Have a safe Fourth of July and before lighting up your grill and
fireworks pause and remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice,
so we may continue our tradition.

  1. scraps, scraps, scraps! I rarely throw any away because when I do that’s the time I have to use a full sheet for just a small flower ribbon or something. I even put a folder in front of all my colors to hold those scraps. There also great for the grandkids to make their cards since they insist on making a card every time they come over .Was hoping to meet u at convention but sounds like u will still be deployed so u will not be forgotten as I love everything you make

  2. I would feel much the same way as you I imagine during such a ceremony. I am humbled by ALL who serve and by their families who also sacrifice so very much.

    Peace!

  3. God Bless You and all who serve this wonderful country we call home. Words could never express the depth of my thanks to you for all you do to keep us safe. Happy Independence Day!

  4. So sorry that you had to do that, because I am so sorry for the loss of that heroic woman. Blessings and many thanks to you, my friend.
