Stampin’ Up! Beautiful Memories

I love the old wooden look and I fell in love with the Soho Subway (130140) designer series paper the moment I laid eyes on it.  It reminds me of living in Jersey and taking the train to New York just to have lunch.

It literally brings back sweet memories of being stationed at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.  It was the best of times and one of my funnest assignments.

One thing about moving every four years that truly sucks is meeting the best friends in the world, just to move again and start the cycle all over again.  But it’s a life style and I have friends all over the world.

It’s the same with deployments.  You pretty much, eat-sleep-work out-go to work- and restart the cycle everyday for six months.  Going home is bitter sweet, but I still have four months left to enjoy my new friendships.

In the mean time, I will capture all my great memories (no pun intended).

This card sketch is brought to you by Freshly Made Sketches #90 by Linda Callahan, one of my fellow stamping Pals.

With Heartfelt Sympathy

Deployments are already difficult and although we hope that our friends & family are safe at home, tragedy strikes and we are saddened with the news of someone passing away.

My sister-in-law lost her mom this week and I felt bad not being able to reach out to her right away.  So, I stayed up late to make her this card expressing my deepest sympathy.

As card makers we absolutely hate making these types of cards, but we know we must to let those we love know we are thinking of them in their time of sorrow.

The Simply Sketched stamp set is a Hostess gift  from the new 2013-14 catalog.  It was a part of the pre-order demonstrator’s were allowed to purchase before hitting the general public.  I stamped it on Watercolor Paper and then used my Stampin’ Up! Markers to color it in.

The catalog goes lives on Fri., May 31st.  Don’t forget to come back and check it out on-line or request your FREE copy today by clicking on CATALOGS on the right.

In Your Time of Need I’m “Thinking of You…”

Sorry1

When I sat to make this card, I had a heavy heart.  A dear friend lost her father and I was reminded that we are all vulnerable to so many things here on earth.  She’s a pretty strong lady, but still needed to know that I was thinking of her during her time of sorrow.

Sorry2

Although these are the kind of cards I HATE to make, I pour my heart full of LOVE into them.  That is why I put the small heart in it.  My heart is bigger than that =), but a bright red heart on any card brings a little bit of love and warmth… wouldn’t you agree?

Sorry3

I punched out a scalleop circle to add a little cloud around the sentiment and used a white marker to represent my thoughts and prayers for my friend.  Thank you for choosing to stop by my blog.  You are simply beautiful and I appreciate you!

I’m Sorry… is Never Easy

When making one of these cards, just like my words, I am always at a loss.  It’s always more difficult for me to come up with a layout or know what colors to use.  Does that happen to you?  It’s one of the moments we absolutely hate to sit down and make a card.  Even though there are never enough words in the English language to express how much we are sorry for their loss, we sit at our crafting table and with heavy hearts make a card for our loved ones.

I searched and search card layouts until I found one that I thought would make a nice sympathy card.  I chose Mojo Monday #267 and mixed color combinations I normally do not use.  I’m not very good with color, but wanted it to represent that all of us are all different.  Although we are all born equal, we are different from one another and we are all special to others… and that is the void we miss when we are all called to go home to our Heavenly Father.

It’s Here! Connie’s Flash Card Technique

A few days ago I discovered a simple way of making cards easier, it’s called Flash Card Technique.  It was a creation by Connie Stewart and they are a MUST have for ALL stampers!  She makes it so easy to grab and go a card when you don’t have much time to sit for hours to come up with a creation.  All you need is a template and you can find it here.

I will often show you how to create a super easy flashcard, so sign up for my FREE blog updates.  You will get FREE ideas/inspiration to make it easy for you to come up with a card.  All you’ll have to do is copy mine… LoL.  With Connie’s brains and my creations you can get two for a FREE price of ONE… LoL.

I took some Very Vanilla and Tempting Turquoise card stock to create the flash card template.  I then used the Blossom Punch and the Modern Label and punched out the middle of Tempting Turquoise (the piece that become the border).  When Connie cuts down the template, she keeps the edges to also use.  This is what I used to stamp the sentiment with the Window Punch.

It is so easy, I know I will have oodles of fun using her Flash Card Technique.  Now it’s your turn… go on, it’s so easy!

Memories Last Forever

What are the best memories you hold in your heart about a loved one?  Mine are those of my grandmother Nena.  I was blessed to have enjoyed her company as a little girl every break I had from school.  Each year I looked forward to Summer, Christmas, and Easter breaks.  Not because I wanted to run around with my friends, but because I was going to Mexico to spend time with my Nena.  I remember the lessons of love she taught me and how to have compassion for those less fortunate.  She taught me about giving, empathy, sympathy, sharing, caring, about God, kindess, and most of all… about forgiveness.

She went home to be with our Heavenly Father when I was 11 years old.  Yet, I still miss her after 32 years of living without her.  But her memory is tattooed in my heart and burned to memory.  Although I miss her just as much today as when the day she passed, I am thankful for the beautiful memories she left imprinted in my soul.  Someday I will see you again Nena.

I thank my parents for having blessed me with her name… MAGDALENA.

I Promise You, This Too Shall Pass

I’m a firm believer that time heals all wounds and our faith keeps us strong.  I have experienced the pain and agony a person goes through when something happens to us, a family member, or a close friend.  I have often heard others say, “I’m sorry for your loss, or you are a strong person… you’ll be okay.”  They hug us to show physical support, but then they leave.  Not because they don’t care, but because life goes on.  It’s not a bad thing, but when I tell someone I’m sorry for what they are enduring, I like to give them a little something to let them know they are in my thoughts & prayers.

This stamp is new this year and Stampin’ Up! left nothing out!  The set comes with other beautiful stamps, you will know you just have to have it when you see it.  Go on take a LOOK at it now.  Pair it up with our basic colors and get yourself the Classic Stampin’ Spots, then come on over and I will show you how to put a sweet simple card together for FREE!  You have no creativity?  No worries, you don’t NEED it.

An Antique Heartfelt Exchange

A shout out to all my PRETTY PALS at convention this year in Salt Lake City, Utah!  Wish I could be there, but instead I participated on a one-for-one card exchange with us PRETTY PALS who watch from behind the screen.  Whoever got it… I hope you enjoy it.

I used Real Red for the card base and embossed the Very Vanilla with the embossed Square Lattice folder.  The Antique Brads added the finishing touches.  I wanted the Heartfelt stamp to stand out so I stamped it in Real Red ink and used the Apothecary accents to cut it out.  Leave a comment and let me know if you you like it?

Memories Last a Lifetime (FMS #20)

FMS Princess Badge

This post is dedicated to Mrs. Lydia Deocampo.  Her husband, Ed aka “Honeyboy” went to Heaven on Jan. 6, 2012.  She has been feeling sad and lonely without her husband of more than 50 years.  Her daughter Gemma said, “My Papa was her memory; couch potato & “iron chef” partner; breakfast, lunch, and dinner date; medicine reminder; bill payer & organizer; Christmas stuff decorator, idol & fan; dishwasher; shopping, prayer, and church companion; and, best of all, her best friend and partner for more than 50 years!”

FMS #20

When I read her post I knew I had to make Mrs. Deocampo a special card that would let her know that she is thought of by many of us in her time of sorrow.  I had the perfect stamp and FMS #20 was the perfect sketch.  This is why I love my hobby… it lets people know that they are in the thoughts and prayers of others.

I hope that this card brings her just a little bit of sunshine and a smile to her beautiful face because she is held up high in prayer for peace and comfort.  Her sweetheart’s MEMORIES will live in her heart for an eternity and those same MEMORIES will be carried on by their children.  I met him years ago and he welcomed me into his loving home offering me his friendship, as I was visiting their daughter, Gemma, who served in the Air Force with me.
